PORT CHARLOTTE, FL (November 02, 2016) – November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month and Bayfront Health Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda are decorating their campus’ with white ribbons to recognize and bring awareness.

- Lung cancer takes more lives than breast, prostate and colon cancers combined
- 1 in 14 men and 1 in 17 women will be diagnosed with lung cancer
Recognize it as early as possible. Know the signs and symptoms and see your doctor if you experience any of the following common symptoms of lung cancer:
- Blood in cough
- Recurring respiratory infections
- Enduring cough that is new or different
- Ache or pain in shoulder, back, or chest
- Trouble breathing
- Hoarseness or wheezing
- Exhaustion or weakness
Other symptoms may include:
- Swelling in the neck or face
- Difficulty swallowing
- Weight loss
Bayfront Health Port Charlotte now offers a minimally invasive procedure that may aid with earlier diagnosis for patients with lung lesions, so those with cancer can get treated as soon as possible and patients with benign conditions can potentially avoid surgery. It is a new bronchoscopy procedure that uses a navigation system with GPS-like technology. This is a significant advancement for aiding in the diagnosis of lung cancer and overcomes limitations of traditional diagnostic approaches including bronchoscopy, needle biopsy and surgery.
