Charlotte County, FL (November 19, 2021) – Andy S. Romine, R.N., MHSA, has been named chief executive officer of Bayfront Health Port Charlotte and Bayfront Health Punta Gorda beginning January 10. Romine brings extensive experience in hospital growth, staff retention and improving the patient experience. He most recently served as president at Rockledge Regional Medical Center, a 298 bed hospital in Rockledge, Florida.
During Romine’s tenure, Rockledge Regional Medical Center saw steady growth, including the expansion of outpatient satellite locations, recruitment of 68 physicians, development of a comprehensive cardiology program, the addition of two surgical robots, more advanced surgical procedures across numerous specialties, and development of an intensive outpatient behavioral health program. His engagement with the medical staff and employees increased staff retention and strengthened the patient experience.
“Quality healthcare takes a team. Andy is a strategic thinker with a proven record of delivering exceptional patient experience and outcomes – one patient at a time,” said Jim Fendrick, board chair, Bayfront Health Port Charlotte. “Andy’s background in nursing will ensure a quality of care that will serve Charlotte County and the surrounding communities well. Finally, important to the board, is Andy's record of providing a supportive environment to healthcare professionals and support staffs.”
Before joining Rockledge, Romine served as chief nursing officer for Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama. In this role, he oversaw more than 800 employees across numerous clinical departments. He led two electronic medical record conversions, had strong nursing retention rates, strong HCAHPS scores and strengthened patient safety.
“We are pleased to welcome Andy to the community and excited to have his administrative expertise and clinical knowledge at the helm,” said James McCarty, board chair, Bayfront Health Punta Gorda. “He has demonstrated the ability to forge strong, productive relationships with physicians and employees that can support the delivery of great experiences for patients.”
Romine earned his Bachelor of Science in nursing from the University of Cincinnati and his Master of Health Services Administration at Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. He enjoys being active in the community at large, serving as a local board member for the United Way of Brevard County, American Heart Association, Brevard County Public Schools Foundation, Brevard Symphony and Hospice of St. Francis.
He succeeds Tara McCoy who has accepted a new role with another healthcare organization. Experienced hospital executive Doug Luckett will serve as interim CEO for the hospitals until Romine arrives.
