PORT CHARLOTTE, FL. (October 18, 2016) – Comprehensive Women’s Health Care and Bayfront Baby Place know that having a baby can be one of the most exciting and rewarding times in a woman’s life. Together they are providing options and a memorable experience for expectant mothers and their families, close to home.
When Danielle found out she was pregnant with her second child, the excitement began. She quickly calculated her due date, found an obstetrician, and chose her birthing facility. Although the facility was about an hour drive from her house, it was where her obstetrician was on staff.
At 30 weeks pregnant however, she was hospitalized for a kidney infection at Bayfront Health Port Charlotte. During her stay, she met Jerome Sturm, M.D., FACOG, board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with Comprehensive Women’s Health Care, since he was the on-call physician.
“I was previously seeing a physician in Sarasota and was planning on delivering up there. However, after this chance encounter with Dr. Sturm and speaking with him, I decided it was best to switch physicians,” said Danielle. “He really took time with me to explain things and listen to my concerns. I felt really comfortable speaking with him and confident in his medical expertise. He understood and respected my thoughts and concerns for every aspect of my labor and delivery. Plus, his office and the hospital were only right around the corner from my house which helped ease my mind in case I had a medical emergency.”
Along with making her feel comfortable, Dr. Sturm respected Danielle’s birthing decision. “I researched water births, at home births, as well as birthing centers. I wanted to have as close as possible to a natural childbirth with still having the option to utilize different forms of pain management such as a birthing ball, IV pain medication and/or an epidural,” she said. “And Dr. Sturm provided just that. He helped me through the whole delivery, and explained everything to me that was happening at the time. It truly was an awesome experience thanks to him.”
Dr. Sturm is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist with advanced training in ultrasound, laparoscopy, hysterectomy and urogynecology (the treatment of pelvic floor disorders). He specializes in prenatal care, labor and delivery, natural child birth, high-risk pregnancies, infertility and gynecological care. He is also a nationwide proctor and educator for robotic-assisted surgical options, providing patients another alternative for the treatment of pelvic pain, endometriosis, pelvic prolapse and incontinence.
At Bayfront Baby Place at Bayfront Health Port Charlotte, you’ll find the full spectrum of care from prenatal to post-partum care, including a level II neonatal-intensive care unit (NICU), backed by All Children’s Neonatology/Johns Hopkins Medicine, for babies that may need more support. And, the comprehensive care extends beyond delivery, with a full range of educational resources for new parents including a Breastfeeding Support Group and Outpatient Lactation Consultations.
Danielle says Dr. Sturm and the entire nursing staff at Bayfront Baby Place were very attentive, kind, and made for an overall great experience. She encourages moms-to-be to “look for a physician that you feel understands, supports and respects your birthing plan. If you’re not sure what birthing plan is right for you, find a physician that you feel comfortable voicing your thoughts and concerns with, one that listens to you while still educating and explaining options to you. And, when you do narrow it down, go for a consult with the physician, and follow your gut feeling. That’s what I did and I found an amazing physician.”
