ShorePoint Health Announces the 2023 Doctor of the Year Award Recipients for Their Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda Hospitals

ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda named their Doctor of the Year award recipients during Doctor’s Day celebrations at both hospitals at the end of March. These are the first Doctor of the Year awards given since the hospitals rebranded in 2021. The honorees were Brandon Coffey, D.O., for ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte and John Kuhns, M.D., for ShorePoint Health Punta Gorda.

Dr. Coffey is an internal medicine doctor with Team Health who has been an independent member of the medical staff at ShorePoint Health Port Charlotte since August 2021. He was nominated and ultimately voted for by hospital employees because of his consistent communication with both patients and staff, his responsiveness to patient needs, and his positive attitude towards everyone he interacts with.

“He is present, he is engaged, and so easy to work with. The fact that he is so approachable fosters and facilitates communication, which clearly has a positive impact on patient safety and quality care.” said Andy Romine, ShorePoint Health CEO.

Dr. Kuhns is a cardiologist with the Charlotte Heart and Vascular Institute at Millennium and has been an independent member of the medical staff and ShorePoint Health Punta Gorda for almost 13 years. Dr. Kuhns was voted for this award because of his dedication to patients, his consistency with patients and staff, and the care that he shows to everyone he interacts with.

“As chief of staff for Punta Gorda, Dr. Kuhns’ steady hand and steadfast leadership is truly impressive and admirable. He always approaches situations from a place of advocacy for the patient, the hospital staff, and the community.” said Romine.
