CHARLOTTE COUNTY, FL (November 29, 2017) –Bayfront Health Port Charlotte today announced that they have hit a milestone by performing their 1000th robotic surgery case. The 1000th case was performed by Alvaro M. Bada, M.D., on Tuesday, November 14, 2017.
“I am excited to be the surgeon to have performed the 1000th robotic surgery case here at Bayfront Health Port Charlotte,” says Alvaro M. Bada, M.D., general surgeon. “I just recently moved to the area but am already amazed by the progress Bayfront Health is making when it comes to advanced technologies. I’m proud to be a part of it.”
While this robotic-arm technology can be used across a spectrum of minimally invasive surgical procedures, surgeons at Bayfront Health Port Charlotte are using these robots primary for gynecology, general surgery, colorectal and bariatric weight loss surgery procedures.
“Robotic surgery allows me to perform the same delicate and complex operations, but with more precision and dexterity,” says Domingo Galliano, Jr., M.D., FACS, FASCRS, board-certified colon and rectal surgeon. Dr. Galliano has performed the most cases of any board-certified colorectal surgeon from Clearwater to Naples.
The robotics program at Bayfront Health Port Charlotte is made up of a dedicated group of surgical staff, nurses, anesthesia providers and surgeons. Surgeons in the program include general surgeons Alvaro R. Bada, M.D., Alvaro M. Bada, M.D., Maria Castilla, M.D., and Geoffrey Roelant, M.D., colon and rectal surgeon Domingo Galliano, Jr., M.D., FACS, FASCRS, and gynecologists Ruben Guzman, M.D. and Charlene Okomski, D.O.
Bayfront Health also has a third robot that is used for total hip, partial knee and total knee procedures but those are calculated separately and not included in this 1000th milestone.
“I am very proud of the hard work and dedication of all members of our robotics team,” says Tim Cerullo, Market CEO for Bayfront Health Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda. “To have the largest and longest running robotics program in the area is a true testament. The 1000th case is just the beginning.”
